Ok, seeing as Paines are about to become the Bateses extended family and you guys have been asking a lot of questions about them, I’ll give you a quick run down on who they. Over the next few days I’ll do profile/photos on a few of them, so bear with me :)
The first thing you need to know about the Paines is that they travel ALL THE TIME. Seriously, these people are away more than the Duggars , except their kids go away alone and some don’t even live at home. As far as I can tell most of the family lives in Eagle Springs, Oklahoma at the moment, but they also spend time in Oakwoods, Illinois (where they used to live and the location of the IBLP headquarters). They frequent trips to Indiana (where the IBLP training centre is), Tennessee (where the Bateses are), Florida (where their extended family is), Michigan (where Journey to the Heart is), Texas and California, usually as small groups, but sometimes as a whole family. In 2003 they joined IBLP (Institute in Basic Life Principles) and have been mega involved ever since. As far as I can tell they did a few Baptist things before then, but were perhaps less fundie than they are now, so the older kids may have had a less conservative upbringing. The four oldest kids and Steve are mega involved with IBLP, with most of them working in the publications department. Every time there’s a Journey to the Heart or IBLP missions trip, there will usually be at least one Paine in attendance.
The Paine kids, in order of birth are Tabitha, Chad, Thomas, Nate, Hannah, Abby, Brielle, Josiah, Daniel and Johnny.
The parents are Steve and Tammy. Despite their closeness with Gothard and such they actually seem fairly free thinking and genuine good people. Steve is a family physician (and a legitimate doctor) while Tammy is homemaker. They are both in their early 50’s and got married in October 1984 and had their first child, Tabitha, shortly after. Tammy had an operation after Nate to stop her from having kids, then had it reversed a couple of years later and had Hannah (and the next five kids). Hence they sometimes call the youngest six the “reversal” babies. Because of this the biggest gap between kids (3-4 years) exists between Nate and Hannah. The oldest four are the more independent ones who do all the travelling and working, while the younger six stay closer to home.
Next time I’ll post on Tabitha, Chad, Thomas and Nate :)
